Being the country agent for Royal HZPC Holland BV, our aim is to produce and sell quality potato seed to our Ethiopian farmers, as import of potato seed is not allowed. The traditional potato seed propagation out in the field has been proven to be too difficult in this country and moreover, only a few good varieties are available. Therefore, we keep on importing and testing new HZPC-varieties to determine which cultivars would be well-adapted to the short days at the highlands of Ethiopia.

Quite different from the traditional potato areas, the best suited potato varieties for year-round cropping system at the midlands of Africa combine the following characteristics: early maturity, resistance to field diseases, high yields, good taste and flavour and almost no dormancy. Our current varieties Sagitta and Red Scarlett fit quite well in this niche, and we keep on searching and selecting to add better ones!
